LIFE: The Years of the Crown

This was the first LIFE book I did, and the first cover I designed for Meredith books. We had amazing access to photojournalist Lawrence Schiller’s collection of photos taken from the set of the film, and they are absolutely stunning. I had fun riffing on old western wanted posters and distressed type for the design.

Fun fact: Schiller didn’t have a color version of the cover image, but the amazing UK firm Dynamichrome brought the image back to Technicolor life.
